It is known that Inner Mongolia Jiaruimi Fine Chemical Co., Ltd. has invested 250 million yuan in building the project of an annual output of 3,000 tonnes glufosinate and in constructing the new office building. Currently a glufosinate production line of an annual output of 600 tonnes has been put into trial production. The other four production lines produce 2,400 tonnes of glufosinate each year and the construction will be started in this September. It is expected that the construction will be completed next year.
Zhejiang Yongnong Bioscience is the first enterprise to produce glufosinate products and the first domestic enterprise to register glufosin glufosinate products in 2007. After Yongnong Bioscience, over 20 enterprises including Bayer CropScience and Lier Chemical have successively received the registration approvals for glufosinate TC. Zhejiang Yongnong Bioscience, Shijiazhuang Kairui Chemical and other enterprises have received glufosinate production licenses. What’s more, a number of enterprises are planning to start the glufosinate production projects. Based on a development rate like this, it is expected that the output of glufosinate TC will exceed 50,000 tonnes by the end of next year. Glufosinate will become a big herbicide variety.
Currently glufosinate products in the domestic pesticide market don’t occupy a big share, only about 3% of the glyphosate market share. However, with the ban on paraquat AS, an increasing number of enterprises have seen the market opportunities of glyphosate and they began to set foot in the glufosinate market. After the boom of glyphosate market, domestic enterprises have rushed towards this market. The output of glufosinate is growing with a geometric ratio, which should cause concerns among the industry. In fact, the EU has already set up limits on glufosinate. It has made specific regulations on the application dosage and times of glufosinate: no more than 750g of active principle of glufosinate per hectare (surface treatment) should be applied in belt or on spot, and could be only applied two times each year. Learning from the past lessons, enterprises should be cautious in selecting pesticide varieties and building the production capacity.
