MOU for Cooperation of Pesticide Management Technology between China and Egypt Signed in Beijing

At the invitation of ICAMA Prof. Dr. Mohamed I. Abdel-Megeed, president of the Egyptian Agricultural Pesticide Committee (APC-Egypt) of Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Egypt, and Prof. Dr. Yehia A. Ibrahim, vice-president of the Committee came to China for a visit lasting from 16 to 25 June. They have made in-depth discussions on carrying out exchanges over pesticide management technologies, building cooperation mechanisms between China and Egypt as well as other relevant issues. During the visit, ICAMA held a seminar on pesticide management technology exchanges between China and Egypt in Beijing on 17th and 18th of June. The seminar was presided over by the deputy director of the Institute.

 
Experts from both countries made exchanges on each other’s pesticide management systems, law and regulation construction, data requirement for pesticide registration, import and export of pesticides, and supervision on the pesticide market; they also discussed the cooperation intention of pesticide management strategies between China and Egypt, reached an agreement on mutual recognition of each others pesticide registration data and signed "MOU for Cooperation of Pesticide Management Technology Between China and Egypt." Both sides have made efforts to promote cooperation on pesticide registration management, quality supervision, trade regulations, etc. After the seminar, Prof. Dr. Mohamed I. Abdel-Megeed and Prof. Dr. Yehia A. Ibrahim visited labs testing physicochemical properties and environmental toxicology of pesticides as well as GLP labs. They also made a visit to the Institute of Plant Protection (IPP), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and joined the seminar on Egyptian-Chinese pesticide management with some pesticide production enterprises.


APC is the highest institution for managing pesticides in Egypt. Its members are appointed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Egypt. Entrusted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, APC is mainly responsible for the registration, management, application, import and export management of pesticides, and examine the effectiveness and security of the pesticides to ensure agricultural production, human and animal health and environmental safety. The exchange events have laid a solid foundation for further deepening pesticide registration cooperation between China and Egypt, enhancing both sides’ pesticide management capability, and establishing cooperative principles and mechanisms of mutual benefit.
