Responsible Care is a management system that is for self-discipline, continuous improvement on environment protection, health and safety in chemical industry. HSE (health, safety and environment) is the core concept of it.
Agrochemical industry is one of the earliest industries to advocate HSE spirit. Benefiting from the deep cooperation with multinational companies, many Chinese pesticide companies have started practicing HSE management. Until today, more and more enterprises have joined the team. HSE management has turned from a volunteering activity to a rule with government-guidance, industry-promoting and enterprise-practicing. Excellent HSE management may not be able to generate directly economic effect, but it can avoid loss. Only enterprises that pay closely attention to HSE management can gain sustainable development.
China Crop Protection Industry Association takes the HSE promotion as a priority, and achieve a lot after many years’ arduous effort. To improve the HSE management level of the whole industry, improve the management on Environment, Safety and Health in enterprises, improve the competitive edge of enterprises in international market, strengthen self-discipline to ensure one healthy development of the industry, CCPIA published HSE Management Requirement in China Crop Protection Industry in 2012. Based on it, CCPIA carried a series of activities including counseling, training and high-level workshops, and started assessment and validation aiming at the HSE compliance enterprise in June 2013. It drafted the Audit Requirement on HSE Management Requirement in China Crop Protection Industry, establish expert auditing data base. Many companies showed interest, and finally 17 of them passed the approval.
Promotion of Responsible Care is a long-term work, and needs careful planning, broadcasting and implementation. We expect Chinese enterprises actively engage themselves in it, and create a better operating environment for the whole industry.
